Certh India Hospital
Shine Children provides a temporary home for boys and girls diagnosed with cancer who are receiving chemotherapy at the Pediatric Oncology Center Pondicherry – India. Shine Children opened in October 2017.
This project was conceived following the identification of a number of needs. Families in extreme poverty, and those in remote rural areas, were struggling with several challenges when providing care to their children who suffered from cancer: scarce economic resources, the distance between their homes and the hospital where the children received treatment for cancer, and the lack of social care.
JAL welcomes all these children accompanied by their mother or closest relative, and provides them with holistic care during the long and hard process. Shine Children provides care in different stages, starting with reception, transfers, psychological and social support, adequate food, and rest. In addition, recreational activities and school revision are provided, as well as monitoring their progress until the end of the child’s treatment.
